Bulldogs Cap Amazing 2024 Run, Get Some Help, and Punch Their Ticket for the Postseason

2023 was a rough year for the Bulldogs. The team started strong with a 2-1 start including a win that ended the Cavemen's 15 game undefeated streak.

However, whatever confidence was gained in that start evaporate as the team went winless for the next 5 games. The Bulldogs had a lead for 1:17 seconds during that 5 game stretch to end 2023 2-5-1 and floating around 7th or 8th place in the standings.

Then the calendar flipped to 2024.

The Bulldogs found their groove starting with the Norsemen, where they finally opened up the game with the lead and never looked back. This was followed with quality wins against the Maroons and Cavemen, both teams that spent most of the season in the top 3 spots in the division.

The game against the Troopers ended the 3 game winning streak as the Bulldogs were unable to keep up with the shootout in New Hope, losing 6-9. Still sitting several spots out of a playoff spot with a 5-6-1 record, another loss would most likely spell the end to the team's playoff hopes.

As it turned out, the Bulldogs would not lose for the rest of the season. Starting with the Zephyrs, the Bulldogs would rattle off 6 straight wins, including a shutout against another top 3 team in the Spartans and 7-1 win against the Royals that propelled the team into a tie for the last playoff spot in the division. During this stretch, the Bulldogs did not trail an opponent between February 3rd and March 9th.

Despite this run, the playoffs were still just out of reach as the team was in 6th place via tiebreak. In the second to last game of the season, the Bulldogs finally stumbled, tying the 2-13-3 Norsemen and missing an opportunity to take destiny into their own hands. The tie wasn't fatal however, as the Troopers and Royals, the other teams fighting for two playoff spots, tied against each other on the same night with the Troopers scoring twice in the last 48 seconds of the game to force overtime.

Going into the last game of the regular season, the Bulldogs needed to get a point over the Royals OR the Troopers lose in order to get into the postseason. The Bulldogs were once again taking on a top 3 team in the Maroons in a back and forth game. The Bulldogs established an early lead, eventually making it 4-1 in the middle of the second. However, the Maroons clawed back with 3 unanswered of their own to tie the game with 12 minutes remaining. It would be D. LaTour's second goal of the game at 5:10 in the third that would end up being the game winner for the Bulldogs. With the 6-4 win, the Bulldogs would close out the regular season 12-6-2.

The Royals were also playing against a top 3 team in the Spartans in what turned out to be a shootout at Breck. 6 goals were scored in the first period leaving the game tied 3-3. The Royals would build a 1 goal lead in the second. With just 2:22 left in the third, the Spartans equalize to make it 6-6 and eventually forcing overtime. The game would end in a tie, elevating the Bulldogs into the playoffs.

The Bulldogs enter the playoffs as a 4 seed and will be taking on the #1 Mastodons, #2 Sled Dogs, and #4 Sharks in the group stage. The team is hoping to see their 2024 winning ways continue and result in acquiring some hardware at the end of April.
