Bulldogs Survive Trap Game, Take Down Chiefs 8-6

by JJ Glover on March 6th

The Bulldogs have been on a 5-game undefeated streak and are moving ever closer to a playoff berth. Naturally that means a game against the last place Chiefs should be a cakewalk.

Instead it turned into a wide open shootout that included 6 goals to tie and 3 lead changes. The Chiefs were the first to start the scoring with a goal from R. Affolter at 10:21, starting the seesaw action. The Bulldogs Ed Soler ties the game just two and a half minutes later, then the Chief strike again with a goal from Porterfield. A reply from B. Kuhns ties the game back up to 2-2.

The start of the second saw the first lead for the Bulldogs on a goal from Chanthavongsa. The lead would last 30 seconds as Ranheim ties it back up and 90 seconds later another goal from Porterfield regains the lead for the Chiefs. Just 60 seconds after, the Bulldogs counter with Kuhns's second goal of the evening. There's a quick 4 minute break before the Chiefs again take the lead on a goal from C. Rovn, but in the final minuter of the game, B. Kuhns completes the hat trick to tie the game at 5.

Just like at the start of the second, the Bulldogs take the lead on Ed Soler's second of the night, only for the Chiefs's S. Nolden to tie it back up late. However, this is where the Bulldogs finally pull away as B. Hillstead and captain S. Swanson score within 40 seconds of each other to ensure a Bulldogs victory.

The win keeps the Bulldogs several wins ahead of the playoff line and keeps pace with the division leading Loons. Next week the Bulldogs take on a potential playoff bound team in the Troopers. A win could solidify a playoff berth for the team, while a loss would make the stretch run a nervous one.
