Ever since the January 15th loss to the Fighting Loons, the Bulldogs have been undefeated for the 4 games. However, the division remains tightly contested with 7 teams fighting for 5 playoff spots. In a game against a tough Fighting Piranhas team, the Bulldogs were looking to stay ahead of the pack.
It was a tightly contested first period with chances for both teams. It would be M. Leslie of the Fighting Piranhas who would strike first on a breakaway chance. This lead would only last until near the end of the period, when D. LaTour slams home a one timer.
The Piranhas start strong in the second with a slapshot from B. Flick in the first minute of the second. T. Trill would add to the lead to make it 3-1 Piranhas.
The Bulldogs then go on a rally. S. Swanson makes it 3-2 late in the second period. Just over a minute later, D. LaTour scores his second to tie the game at 3-3. Midway through the third, T. Chanthavongsa gives the Bulldogs their first lead of the game. 3 minutes later Chanthavongsa scores again to add to the lead.
The Piranhas were able to get one back with 2 minutes left, but it would be too little too late. The Bulldogs would take the game with a 5-4 win.
The victory temporarily places the Bulldogs in first place but multiple teams still have games to play so the difference between top of the division and missing the playoffs is only 3 points. Next Tuesday, the Bulldogs take on the Chiefs and hope to add some clarity to the playoff picture.
