The Ab Rockets won their opener 4-3 despite being outshot 23-39. Heading into Highland, the team was hoping to make up the shot differential.
Unfortunately, the game didn't start that way. 4 minutes into the game, J. Barrett takes a pass in the slot and rips it to give the Wonder Arms the opening goal. Despite winning the shot count 12-7, the Ab Rockets were able to get the goal back as A. Ness pockets his second goal of the season. The period would end up tied 1-1.
The second period was a more even contest in shot opportunities, but the Wonder Arms would be the ones to make the most of it. Less than 2 minutes into the frame, C. Huerta gives the Arms their second lead of the game and 7 minutes later, A. Reville would add on to it to make it 3-1. Ab Rockets M. Lehman counters late in the period and keeps the game close.
The next goal goes again to the Ab Rockets with a shot from A. Lichtenheld to tie the game for a second time. It looked like the Rockets could keep the momentum going and steal the game. However, the Wonder Arms seem to take control at this point and this time they would not relinquish it. A. Reville scores his second of the game with 8:30 to go to restore the Wonder Arms lead. J. Barrett would add an insurance goal 4 minutes later to get to the final score of 5-3. The Ab Rockets had some chances late, but in the period were outshot again 7-15.
The Ab Rockets take on the Ab Wheels next on June 3rd at Richfield. Based on shot differential alone, the Ab Rockets may have played two teams that have serious aspirations to go deep into the playoffs and, despite having a level worst -31 shot differential, played two competitive games and got a win in one. The hope is that going forward the team can continue to gel and string some wins against the competition going forward. Or at least, have the shot advantage in one of the periods.
