The first game of the summer season is always a test to see how quickly players from different winter franchises can gel together with each other first. For the first period, the Bender Balls looked to have the advantage. The BB's had a good number of chances right off the bat, putting Ab Rockets goalie JJ Glover to the test. However, by the middle of the first, the Ab Rockets were finding their own groove and generating some offense of their own. And it would be the Ab Rockets that strike first, a powerplay goal by T. Croat on a feed from A. Bowes. The second period saw Bender Balls with a 10-5 shot advantage again, but T. Croat would score the second goal of the game, giving the Ab Rockets a 2-0 advantage late in the period. With 2:34 left in the period, the Bender Balls finally got their first goal, J. Coughlin burying the puck from an odd man rush. Both offenses would kick it into high gear in the third. Ab Rockets M. Mitson would restore the 2 goal cushion, only for a shot from Bender's R. Andre to leak through 11 seconds later. Ab's A. Ness would counter less than 2 minutes later, bringing the score to 4-2. J. Coughlin would score his second of the game less than 3 minutes later to make it 4-3. The Ab Rockets would survive the late rush to keep the score 4-3 and take the season opener. The Ab Rockets play in Highland on Tuesday against the 0-1 Wonder Arms.
