Bulldogs lose opener 3-2 to Spitfires

by JJ Glover on October 27th
It was going to be a tall order for the Bulldogs to take on last year's C1 East champs in the Spitfires to start the season. The start wasn't encouraging for the Bulldogs. The first shot against of the season from C. Remick was a slap shot that found its way to the back of the net. But the Bulldogs were quick to respond with a shot by Hillstead scoring the tying goal just three minutes later. The Bulldogs took a 7-5 shot advantage into the second period and were buzzing. The Spitfires didn't seem warmed up in the first, but they came back in the second and third. Another 2-on-1 5 minutes into the second led to a Spitfires goal as Geisler beats the goalie in a repeat of goal #1. And just 11 seconds into the third, a rebound gets slammed home by Amberson to give the Spitfires a 3-1 advantage. Despite not having a majority of the chances, the Bulldogs were hanging tough. On a penalty kill, Andersen takes advantage of a turnover and goes end to end and finishes with a blast that gets past Hart to bring the Bulldogs to 3-2 with 6 minutes left. Despite some late penalties, the Bulldogs would run out of time and were unable to bring the game to a tie. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs stayed with last year's #1 seed, a sign that the Bulldogs of this year may be building on the success from the last half of the previous season and brings with it a bit of playoff aspiration as well. The next chance for a win is on Sunday night in Eden Prairie against the Sharks.
