Its the final game of the first half of the season for the Bulldogs and its been a season of close calls. Four games ended with 1-goal losses, another two with 1-1 ties. The biggest question being, can this team compete for a playoff spot?
From the first period, the Bulldogs took control of the game just like the game against Shame On Ice. J. Anderson, A. McCann, and J. Zeleskey would start the goals in the first period, all within five minutes of each other. The Bulldogs would end the period with a 12-6 shot advantage translating to a 3-0 lead.
The second period would be more of the same. The Bulldogs put up 20 shots to the Lakers 5. E. Furlich and S. Swanson would end up with the goals to make the game 5-0 at the end of two.
There would be no third period comeback as the Bulldogs added to the lead with goals from K. Gardner and S. Swanson. The final shot total was 42-18 and the score ended at 7-0. It was the first shutout for JJ Glover since the 2015-16 Winter Season.
The Lakers are still in the last playoff spot and this win could have serious implications later on if the Bulldogs can keep winning. Despite the team being buried in the standings at 8th, they are just 2 points out of 5th place, and 5 points out of a playoff spot. A second half run can propel the team into a playoff spot, but the consistency and a little puck luck need to be more on the Bulldogs side than in the first half.
