Sharks and a shortbench take down the Bulldogs 3-2

by JJ Glover on November 10th
The feeling in the Bulldogs locker room was that it was going to be a long night as only 8 skaters emerged to take the ice. When the puck dropped, the Bulldogs hoped to score early and have enough gas to protect the lead late. S. Swanson did just that less than a minute into the game, taking a feed from B. Hillstead and putting it past the Sharks netminder. However, as the game went on, it was pretty clear that it was going to be a close game as both teams were able to sustain some pressure. A Sharks opportunity later in the period that looked an awful lot like an Ovechekin one-timer was barely deflected by J. Glover. Finally, with 2 minutes left, a defensive miscue was intercepted, leaving A. Lebda all alone to tie for the Sharks 1-1. The second period was a copy of the first. S. Swanson again took a pass from Hillstead and Miller to but the Bulldogs in front early. A. Lebda again scores the equalizer with a centering feed from P. Lance. By the third period, the Bulldogs were working on shift control to conserve energy, and 7 minutes in, had fallen behind on a goal from P. Lance. 3-2 Sharks would be the result the rest of the way as the Bulldogs struggled to maintain offensive zone pressure. Last year, the Bulldogs had a massive second half surge that started just a bit too late to make the postseason. With an 0-2 start, this year's team is hoping to avoid that same fate, but its going to require some wins soon.
