The Bulldogs knew it was going to be tough to try and get back to .500 through the division leading Lumberjacks. And in the first period, the Lumberjacks emphasized the point.
The first period saw a Bulldogs team that was caught flatfooted, eventually giving up 17 shots and only putting 3 of their own on net. Three penalties also hampered the team, including a rare delay of game penalty for the JJ Glover, who was caught way out in the dots and decided to cover the puck for his first career penalty.
The Lumberjacks were quick to capitalize, establishing the lead in the first 5 minutes of the game with a powerplay goal from A. Hargreaves, then another powerplay goal from M. Mcnab. It looked like it was going to be a long game for the Bulldogs.
But things normalized in the second. The Bulldogs were able to outshoot the Lumberjacks 11-9, and it was the Lumberjacks who started filling the penalty box. However, A. Peterson stood tall and continued to deny the Bulldogs offense.
The third period saw both teams come alive. Ed Soler of the Bulldogs was finally able to put a puck past the Lumberjacks netminder to reduce the lead to 2-1. The Lumberjacks countered with a screen shot from D. Hufnagle at the point that just stayed inside the post to increase the lead to 2. Just a minute later, B. Hillstead scores unassisted to get it back to 3-2.
The dreaded 3-2. Despite the continued offense pressure at the end of the game, the Bulldogs were unable to find the tying goal. And for the 3rd game in 4, the Bulldogs would end up losing to a score of 3-2.
Despite the slow start, the team is still optimistic about the season as they have played some tough teams early on and shown signs of being competitive in all of them. They hope to turn it around Saturday in New Hope against he 2-1-0-1 Fighting Loons.
