Overtime heroics to start the season

by JJ Glover on June 9th

The Summer League opener means new players and parts of teams coming together to figure out who works with who. In the early going, the first team that comes together starts the season with some early wins.

In the first period of the Lumberjacks/Green Wave tilt, the Lumberjacks looked to be the team in command. The team with the beards spent a large amount of time on the offensive and put up some good chances early in the contest. Three and a half minutes into the season, J. Romo would score the first goal of the Lumberjacks season to take a 1-0 advantage.

But despite the possession advantage early on and a 13-5 shot advantage in the second period, the Green Wave survived the early rush. A loose rebound late into the 1st gets slammed home by Green Wave's D. Ginter to tie 1-1, and both teams would trade goals in the first to end 2-2. In the second period, Green Wave and Lumberjacks would trade goals again to make it 3-3.

In the third frame, the Lumberjacks E. Jensen would give the team a 4-3 with a shorthanded goal. The Green Wave respond yet again with a powerplay goal of their own with 4 minutes left to tie it.

Finally in overtime, a steal, a breakaway, and the game winning goal by G. Griffith would give the Lumberjacks the victory.

The Lumberjacks will hope for an easier time against the Warriors on Sunday at Richfield 1 at 7:30.
