It was starting to feel like the team simply wasn't destined to get a win. Despite the losses and shot count, the Sting have been playing teams very close but simply weren't able to convert on a chance or get a lucky bounce. That ended on Sunday against the Fighting Piranhas at Breck.
The first period started again with the opposing team getting a lead in shots and dictating play. The Piranhas would get 12 in the period to the Sting's 7. However, the Sting's Todd Chrun took control and went end to end to open the scoring. Brett Libby added another one on the power play 6 minutes later. The Piranhas kept up the pressure, though. B. Posl scores on a powerplay to bring the game back to 2-1 before the end of the first period.
The Sting and Fighting Piranhas traded goals in the second period, despite a rare Sting shot advantage 21-12. Chad Andersen gets a goal part way through the second, followed by Piranhas Burshem, then the Sting's Andy McCann adds a powerplay goal, and finally with a minute left, Posl adds his second of the game for the Piranhas. After all of that, the Sting would still find themselves ahead 4-3.
In the third, the Sting attempt to protect their lead and go defensive. With seconds left in the game and the goalie pulled, the Piranhas get a chance up close with a shot, followed by a rebound in the slot. However, the two point blank shots are saved as well as the horn sounds to end the game.
What's next:
The Sting are home at Saint Thomas arena to take on the C1 West leading Sota Hill. Sota Hill started the season with 4 straight wins but lost in their last game against the Avengers.
