The Sting started 2018 on the right foot with a win against the Avengers to start the year, but it was another nail biter all the way to the final whistle.
The game started off relatively evenly as both teams mustered a similar amount of shots with no goals or penalties on either side.
The Avengers turned it on in the second period. M. Stromberg broke the 0-0 tie a couple of minutes into the period, and M. Archibald added a powerplay goal just minutes later to give the Avengers a 2-0 lead. The Avengers dominated the shot count 22-6 in the period. But the Sting were able to hang on as Todd Chrun made it 2-1 just after the Avengers goals.
The Avengers started the period off with another goal from M. Stromberg a minute into the first. However, the Sting answered with a dominating effort in the middle of the period, scoring 3 unanswered goals in a 4-minute span to take a 4-3 lead.
A late powerplay goal for the Avengers ties the game 4-4 with just a 1:23 left in the game. However, just 34 seconds afterwards, a pass from Jeren Anderson finds a wide open Boucher in front of the net for an easy tip in game winning goal.
The win breaks a 4-game losing streak for the Sting. The team takes on the 4-5-1 Spitfires on Sunday.
